comprehensive, biologically sound approach to diagnosis and treatment

Michael Edwards, DDS –

President at OBI Foundation for Bioesthetic Dentistry®

OBI Foundation for Bioesthetic Dentistry®

The OBI Foundation is a teaching institute for dental professionals and technicians worldwide who pursue a comprehensive, biologically sound approach to diagnosis and treatment.

Its educational concept is based on understanding the masticatory system as an integrated biological system and applying these principles to clinical diagnosis, treatment planning, and restorative dentistry.

Natural Esthetics has maintained a long-standing professional relationship with the OBI Foundation through teaching, technical development, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Bernhard Egger has been associated with Bioesthetic Dentistry since 1988. He graduated from the OBI Foundation curriculum in 2003 and joined the Faculty in 2005. As a Master Dental Technician and Bioesthetic Dental Technician, he contributes to Bioesthetic education in Europe, the United States, and Canada through teaching, international lectures, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

As Technical Director, his work focuses on the dental technical aspects of Bioesthetic education, with particular emphasis on morphology and function. Through this work, he contributes to the integration of Bioesthetic principles into dental technology and restorative treatment.

    Start of Morphology Curriculum

Conceptual development of the Morphology & Function Curriculum and its establishment as an integral part of the OBI Foundation’s educational program.

Morphology & Function Curriculum

Morphology & Function was conceptually developed by Bernhard Egger and former OBI Foundation President Dr. David MacLean. The curriculum focuses on the relationship between dental morphology and function within the masticatory system.

It examines how tooth position, cusp and fossa morphology, occlusal relationships, and functional guidance interact, and how these principles can be translated into dental technical procedures.

Dr. David MacLean and Bernhard Egger teach the curriculum together, providing dental professionals and technicians with a systematic understanding of dental morphology as a functional component of the entire masticatory system.
